tea

I was looking for a good tea to buy in the grocery. This one aisle had a ton of choices, and I couldn't figure out what to buy, so I decided to go with this sampler box, where there are 9 flavors, 2 bags per flavor, 18 bags in total.

The sampler box had different kinds of flavors:
acai berry
cinnamon apple chamomile
blueberry superfruit
chamomile
lemon ginger
licorice spice
mango passionfruit
peppermint
wild raspberry

Flavors sound really interesting huh?

So far, I've tried a couple, and I just realized that good old regular tea is way better than these flavored ones. I tried the blueberry superfruit... I couldn't even finish 4 full gulps. I guess juice version will be good, but for tea? Never again. Peppermint was just too much to. The cinnamon was not as bad, but not something I would drink again. So far I think I've only enjoyed one so far - I think it's the lemon ginger (or was it the mango passionfruit).

All in all, I would recommend sticking to the regular flavors. At least that way you can finish them. Now I don't know how to finish this whole box. Maybe bring it back home? haha

might be extended for another month

Our stay might be extended for another month. I've got mixed feelings about it as I was really excited to go home and be able to vote (I would be arriving May 10 - exactly election day). On another note, as I'm into adding more savings and investments these days, then this would definitely be a plus plus.

But, I've been hoping to vote for Gordon though (even though he probably won't win, but who knows right, one vote still counts).

Anyway...

I haven't really gone elsewhere during my stay. Good thing as I can save more, but I'm still disappointed that I cannot join my relatives when they go to Las Vegas for vacation this coming May. For some reason, they just happen to move the dates to the dates that I won't be able to come! Maybe that's a sign that I shouldn't go. Instead, just stay here, relax and save instead.

Da Vinci Exhibit

The Vancouver Art Gallery was offering free admissions during the Olympics and so we decided to drop by earlier there as we heard that they have Leonardo Da Vinci's manuscript in exhibit over there. The exhibit featured pages from Da Vinci's manuscript about the human anatomy.

We all know Leonardo Da Vinci was a genius, but taking a look at his work, how he drew the different muscles, with explanations on how they work, simply amazing! The intricacy of his drawings and all these details, by far way ahead of his time. By the way, they had English versions and description of the manuscripts as these pages were originally written in Italian (correct me if I'm wrong) and written right to left and mirror style.

I was looking for the original Vitruvian Man (that's the only one I'm familiar with) page but it wasn't on display there. However, they still had an area showing a version of the Vituvian Man, that's not so bad.

On another note, they also had an original copy of the book "Gray's Anatomy" on display there. He was a brilliant surgeon who decided to create this book for easy use. I guess we all now know where Grey's Anatomy came from!

All in all, pretty good exhibit. Hoping to go Smithsonian, or even Louvre next, perhaps? Haha

Slushy Snow!

Vancouver hasn't had much snow this winter season (or almost none!). They even called the Vancouver Winter Olympic games as the Spring Olympics! So when I woke up today... It wasn't supposed to snow, and I thought I'd never see actual snow in the city streets, but it did!!

Actually the day before, it was wet snow. Apparently there were a couple of snow drop lets but mostly rain. So it's definitely a nice surprise to wake up with white snow all over the place!

However, with snow comes water and well... what was frustrating was, I had to walk to the office wearing my rubber shoes!! Rubber shoes is no good for snow day as you'll get your feet all wet!! Stupid me. But I didn't have any other option. So I just brought extra socks with me to the office. Nonetheless, though wet, probably one of the most memorable days of my life - my first time to see actual snow!

More pictures in my multiply account!

And I'm still hoping to be able to go do snow shoeing!

2 new activities

I finally got into two activities which I think would be worthwhile of my time while I'm here.

#1 I joined the Christian Life Seminar that Singles for Christ chapter here has organized. I heard about it while I was in church two weeks ago so I decided, what the heck, let me give it a try. It's not only something that can help me spiritually, but also a way for me to meet new people here. It's a 6 session, once a week, every Friday night seminar. I attended the first of the series last Friday and I had a pretty good time. The people there are really friendly. Mostly Filipino immigrants as well. And I'm looking forward to going back this Friday for session #1.

#2 I signed up for the gym. I've already gone three times, and so far doing only cardio exercises. I'm trying to lose some pounds. I'm going back tomorrow again. Feels good actually. In fact, after gym earlier, when I was walking home, I wasn't as cold as I always feel with the weather here. And when I checked, it was 1-2 degrees outside! Not bad!

And apparently it's gonna snow tomorrow?

Canada wins!

Hockey in Canada is what Boxing is to the Philippines.

The last event of the Olympics was hockey and it was Canada versus USA. CTV showed aerial shots from Livecity and boy was it a sight! The place was packed!! For a couple of hours, everyone was glued to the big screen, or tv sets to watch probably one of the most thrilling hockey games the Winter Olympics has ever seen. And with a show of patriotism, most of the people were wearing red.

Today was the first time I watched a game of hockey and boy was it exciting. Canada was leading 2-1 over USA in the third quarter and with less than a minute left, USA plays an "empty net" (no goalie), scores, and ties the game! So game goes into overtime, another 20 minutes. During overtime, whoever scores first, wins the gold. I think under around 7 minutes 30 seconds, of course, the most popular player scores the goal - Sidney Crosby for Canada and whole Canada erupts in cheers. People in Robson, LiveCity, even in Dundas Square Toronto was cheering.

Awesome scene. Similar to when Pacman wins his boxing matches. Unbelievable.

This 2010 Olympics games, since I am here in Vancouver, has really gotten into me. I have started appreciating winter sports altogether! Now I know what the slalom event is!

I even bought myself the most sought after and most popular 2010 Winter Olympics souvenir - the red mittens!!
